For the past few years, I came across a few news articles published on various newspapers about filmmaking in Himachal and the government’s initiative to setup a film city in the state. Even a few months back when Himachal chief minister Virbhadra Singh said the same thing while visiting Ramoji Film City, there he created some hopes for people like me who always wanted to do something for Pahari Cinema. Chief minister urged the youth to come forward for the development of cinema in the state.

But all those news articles were just to create the news only, while no initiative was taken from the government. I understood this as soon as I visited the various departments of HP Government while looking for some funds for my upcoming film ‘Saanjh’. For my surprise, all departments were uttering the same thing that we don’t have these words ‘films’ and ‘cinema’ in our dictionary. We do not have any scheme related to them and we don’t provide any funds for such projects.

Once I thought of asking them about the funding source of documentary recently produced about the life of Himachal CM Virbhadra Singh but then I thought let’s forget it and move forward at my own. The department of tourism, language, art & culture, public relations, or any other have no clue about any kind of support for filmmaking or cinema in the state. I hope one day they will learn about this too.
